In 1993, Gaultier launched a range of eponymous fragrances, beginning with the first Jean Paul Gaultier perfume for her, called Classique. Gaultier’s entrance into the world of perfumes was a natural fit, as he was known to say that fragrance was the first thing one should put on. Like many of the Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances to follow, Classique comes in a unique bottle shaped like a torso. Classique would become only the first Jean Paul Gaultier perfume for her to become a bestseller: Many other popular fragrances followed, such as 1999’s Fragile, 2008’s Madame, and Scandal, which was launched in 2017.
